The northern border of Mexico is a land that has been shaped by defying distance, climate, and geographical adversities. At the heart of this region, the municipal government of Miguel Alemán is commemorating a fundamental milestone in its timeline: the 259th anniversary of the founding of the town of Los Guerra.
Founded on July 30, 1767, this charming community represents not only the origin of its identity but also a living example of Mexican tenacity that persists on both sides of the border.
A Symbol of Resilience
Los Guerra was born long before the current border lines were drawn or the international bridge of 1928 formally began trade with Texas. In fact, every year, the opening of this cultural icon between the two nations is celebrated. It’s also worth noting that it’s the only suspension bridge between Mexico and the US.
When this bridge began operating, Miguel Alemán was called San Pedro de Roma and belonged to the municipality of Mier. From October 11, 1950, Miguel Alemán became a free and sovereign municipality of the state of Tamaulipas.
Economic Development and Security
Since its colonial foundations, it has been a point of confluence for livestock, agriculture, and trade. Celebrating almost 260 years of existence forces us to reflect on how to transform this historical roots into certainty and dynamism for the economic future of the great river basin.
